I've used it at work on tool handles as well. Yes it gives a smooth finish and bonds to steel well BUT with a little oil on your boots it may be slippery. Just my 2 cents worth(and those are Cdn cents) DaBrow ps If you try it post a note for us less adventurous. It can be peeled off.

I dipped a few pairs of pliers in it, it didn't hold up as well as "factory" handles. Running boards? What the hell, give it a try. Like DaBrow says, let us how it works.

I wonder if I can brush on clear Plasti-Dip to protect a small table top. I don't want a separate glass table top piece, but need a durable finish. I have read about 2-part, pour-on finishes (Enviro-Tex), but would rather control it with a brush. Maybe need several coats to get a thick finish? Also, is CLEAR Plasti-Dip really colorless? Thanks

The problem is that it's sorta rubbery even after it dries, this causes it to peel.
If you want something for the running boards that is pretty tough (made for putting on concrete or steel and driving forklifts on) try the Rustoleum epoxy floor paint. I've personally put this stuff down on clean steel and rolled agregate (sand) into it for extra traction when it's raining and so far the only thing to wear out is the shoe leather.
They made a couple of versions so make sure you get the heavy duty stuff (and supply your own "Kiddy play sand"). Also, be sure to put it on clean steel or concrete for best adhesion to the surface.
