I have one of these critters - it's rated at 1 kw, which roughly translates to about 8.9 amps at 120vac. The "basically Briggs" engine is a geared engine, which is how the generator runs at 3600 rpm, when the engine is only going about 1750 rpm. Common problems I've noted are: crud buildup in gas tank - use KREEM to etch the stuff out, and dig it out with a big screwdriver (if it's that bad). Use the whole KREEM kit to recoat the gas tank, as they most always are rusty inside. Clean out the float bowl, as most times, the fuel sat in there for a LONG TIME, and it's pretty cruddy. The duplex AC socket gets loose, and the intake manifold begins to leak, where it fits up against the engine block... I cut a thin piece of LEATHER from an old wallet for a gasket (Sears does not acknowledge that they made this thing), and it hasn't leaked since. This will also correct incorrect idling/running speeds. Once it runs well, use a digital voltmeter in the socket, and set the run-speed screw for an output voltage of 120.0 vac. The large block on the side of the generator, is a 2:1 transformer, as the output voltage FROM THE GENERATOR is actually 240vac! Go to the Sears website, and you can find a parts list (which doesn't do you much good with Sears), but also there's an exploded-view drawing. Hope this helps..... Tom / Denver
