We have a wireless phone system with three handsets with built-in intercom. It's great. We can call one another on the intercom directly, so I can call the kids on the intercom from the other side of the house. Also, with one phone line you can answer on any of the handsets, then transfer to another. So if I'm in the garage (ignoring the phone) and someone else answers a call for me, they can transfer it. Or we can tell the other person directly and they'll pick up the call on another handset. I don't have a phone wire to the garage (yet--though I laid pipe for it and DSL so I can check ytmag from the garage) so it works for me. It's made by VTech.

I haven't done a distance test yet. It's good for at least 100', and I would imagine it's good for 150'. It's 2.4 GHz, so the signal is pretty good.

Many of the plug ins work well, but just remember anyone else on the same transformer and a plug in intercom with a couple of channels may listen in. So beware of what is said.

Purchase a set of walkie-talkies from Radio Shack for about $25. Good for 1/4 mile. I use them for the purpose of communicating with my family while in the barn.

Nah..you have juice in the barn that comes from the house? I got the same thing...barn with juice. Got 3 FM intercoms ...one in the kitchen, one in the barn, one in the loft...oh, one in the celler..all plug into the electricity and all work fine. Got mine at a garage sale for $5 and you can buy them from Radio Shack also..you don't have juice in the barn,,,then you'll need some kind to two way radio..batteries will kill you.
