I have a Poulan Pro 250? 42cc 18" bar about 3 yrs old that the oiler quit on. ( yeah I know I should have a Stihl,Echo, McCulloh,Husquvarna yadda, yadda, yadda, but I don't) Anyway what should I expect to pay to have this repaired and will it cost or approach replacement price of the saw. I don't use a saw much only maybe 20 hrs a year,(which is why I don't have an expensive one)

If you're using your saw 20hrs a year, why not just buy a Stihl MS250 with an 18" bar on it? its worth the $$ to buy one, trust me, a Stihl IS THE BEST you can get for reliablity. Or you could get a Husqvarna 340 or 345 with an 18 on it. either brand would work better and do quite well for your needs, I lean towards the MS250 for you though Its approximately 45.4CCs, 2.97Cubic inches, 3.0 HP, will handle up to an18" bar, and weighs only 10.3 LBS. You'll never want to have another homeowners saw again. I have a Jonsered 670 champ for $200 if you want that, its got a 66.7cc engine and a 20" bar.

how do you remove the clutch and sprocket to replace oil lubricator for the chain, for a craftman 18 inch 42CC chainsaw? Is it left hand threads? If so, how do you stop motor from spinning?

Could be lots of things to look at before you take to a dealer or tear aprt the saw. Is the port that the ooil comes out of at the bar clean debris free, maybe some sludge or wood chips in the bottom of the oil tank, check and see if any oil is getting out with the chain and bar off with saw running. Try adjusting you oil set screw, for more oil, could have worked it self tight.

Had same problem on my husky 365, turned out to be a worn plastic oil pump gear that runs off the motor. It was a $ 10 part at my husky dealer and two hours to open up saw to put it in, works great !

Hope this helps

Guy's hold on a second! Take the bar off of the saw and with a very small screw driver run it along the grove were the chain runs. You will see all kinds of crud and gunk come out of there! You most likely have plugged up oil channels. Sthil has this all the time. Other saws use this systen too. Works great till it plugs up. Jeff
