Got a Columbian Vise - Model 44 - that's been around for a while. It's missing the jaw on one side. All of the ones I can find as replacements are flat stock, and this oldie is shaped like the letter C and fits over a lip on the vise. Tried MdMaster-Carr - they've got goodies for the newer ones. This one probably dates from fifties, like me.

Could you make new jaws out "01" tool steel and harden them, then temper them? 01 can be done with a torch and bucket of oil, then heat to straw color I think to temper. Do you have access to a milling machine or a buddy with one?

Good suggestion - got a welder friend down the road... If I can't find 'em on-line I may have to explore options of getting one made, or grinding away the ridge on the vise and installing flat bar style ...
dll
