OT: Blow-by through Mazda throttlebody?

Hey, y'all.
I've got some blow-by in the form of a deep 'thumping' noise through the throttle body and air filter on my little '95 Mazda MX-3 (1.6L DOHC, 160,000 miles.) It sounds like it's coming about every fourth or fifth revolution when I listen for it at idle. Power and fuel economy seem ok, but may be a bit off. All I can figure that would cause that is a partly stuck valve or a broken or dead valve spring. What do y'all think? This is a car we commute to work in, so I really need to take care of it.

Sounds like it could be a burnt or leaky intake valve. time to do a compression test.
