lincoln sa200 welder question

i found a old lincoln gas welder i think it is a sa200 it has some sort of bellows for a governor. don't know anything about these. it doesn't run and i was wondering if these are worth fixing and using? and also can the governer system be updated?? any idea how old this thing is? thanks for the help

Very good welder you found.as for the bellows that is for the throtle control to idle when not welding. I have 3 of the welders and have been able to get parts for them.Also they only produce115 volts DC at the outlet.Only good for grinders, lights and non variable speed drills.

thanks for the help. i called lincoln and gave the guy the code #, he said the welder was built in 1955. i was wondering if the throttle control deal works ok or if it can be upgraded? i hope to try to get it running pretty quick, it doesn't look like there's a whole lot to it.

Hi Dave

If that SA200 has a very large welding generator (about the size of a SAE400) it is one heck of a good machine. I have one with a Perkins 236-4 diesel and Lincoln denied ever making a SA200 with a 4-cyl. Perkins, the serial number made no sense to them. It was only after talking to an older fella that worked at Lincoln when it was built ('61-'63 as he remembered) that I found out anything about it. He told me to never sell it if I anticipated ever needing a portable welder as
my machine was "custom" made by Lincoln for extreme, super heavy duty service and only a few were built and Lincoln didn't keep many records of them. As far as the bellows is concerned, I haven't the faintest idea.

Hope this was at least interesting

Thanks for the info. I just got an SA200 which is in pretty good working order. I am sure I will need replacement parts at some point.
