Left hand drill to remove broken stub

One of the starter mounting bolts broke on my GM 6.2 diesel truck. Stub was left in hole, about 1/4 inch below the surface of the block. Got a set of left hand drills, chose one slightly smaller than the hole, and used it to make a slight indentation in the stub, this gave me a centered starting point. Then I chose a smaller drill to drill the stub out - so as not to destroy the threads. Broken stub came out readily with only a few moments of drilling. I'm going to hide that set of drills from my teenage son!

Yes they are great for brocken studs,but also fun to lone to my son inlaw to play with his head. He tells me my drills are dull.

Reminds me of like 35 years ago when reversible
drills were new. Used the drill for tapping and
put it back on the shelf. The next guy that used
it sharpened his bit 3 times before he figgered out why it didn't cut. LOL

I just recently bought a set of left handed drill bits. They sure work super, wish I had done this 30 years ago. Highly recommend them for removing stubs. I start with a very small and work up size by size and when you get to almost size of stud they screw right out.
