My wife bought me a Stanley 1/2 inch impact wrench. Box says, 'Professional Model' and states that it has 450 lbs torque.

Before I use it is anyone familiar with this line of air tools? or should I return it and continue to save for an I/R.

I have never used an impact wrench before and only know what I have read on this board.

I haven't run into any of the Stanley impact tools yet but I do know their one of the biggest tool makers out there nowdays. In fact Stanley owns MAC Tools so most if not all MAC Tools are really Stanley when you get right down to it. Going by this I would figure that a Stanley Impact would be the same as a MAC which is a pretty good tool. I was at the Norfolk Southern Railway shop the other day and saw a big catalog showing Stanley Railway Tools. I know we've all seen pneumatic and hydraulic impacts, and there were alot of them listed, but how many of you have ever seen a gasoline powered impact? Stanley makes a 1' drive that runs off of what looks like a chainsaw engine. The torque isn't that impressive for a 1" drive, but it looked like a really cool tool just the same.

Not familiar with the Stanley impact, but the Walmart/Campbell Hausfeld standard model is only 250 foot pounds. The Stanley should do all you need.

If my wife was nice enough to buy me one I would say thank you and use it. Nothing more insulting than to buy someone something and have them take it back!
