Are you saying it won't stay in lock out or won't stay locked up. Can't imagine why you would want it to stay out of lock up-that is when you get your best pulling torque. Under 45mph you should be in converter mode-unlocked (under 35 if your overdrive is locked out by the dash button). I somehow feel like when you say it is searching that it is going into converter when it shouldn't. On mine it was the throttle position sensor (about a $150 fix for part) easy to change yourself. Could also be the speed sensor. Let us know what you find-or if I am reading your question wrong-Jack

Bill: Check alldata.com It seems there was Maybe a TSB in 96 on that problem. You might see if there is anything that pertains to this there, if so, the dodge dealer should print out a copy of the TSB for you. Else let you read it. It should explain the fix.

It can be a tps switch with dirty contacts or needs adjustment, bad speed sensor, brake light switch,or a wiring problem. Post back with some more info, speed it does it,loaded or empty etc.
