OT- emailing pictures/opening files

Hi- I have a question for all you computer-knowledgable people out there. A friend is trying to email me some tractor pictures. He doesn't know much about computers(I really don't either). Anyway, when he finally got the pics scanned and sent, they showed up as "tot" files.... in other words, they were written out like "tractorpic.tot." Almost all the other pictures I've ever gotten emailed to me have been "jpg" files("tractorpic.jpg"). I can't get the tot files to open on my computer, and for some reason my friend isn't able to save the pics in jpg. He got his computer and scanner seond hand and doesn't have a manual for either. My question- what's a "tot" file and how the heck can I get it to open so I can see the picture on my computer???? Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of a "tot" image file either. Odds are that it is something specific to the scanner he used.

Ask your friend what software he uses to view the pictures, and get a copy yourself is likely the easiest way to deal with it. If it is a fairly small program (likely came with scanner), just ask him to email a copy to you.

Or you might find a program or some info at the web site for the scanner manufacturer. A Google search with the scanner's brand name might get you somewhere.

I never heard of a .tot file, so I looked it up... seems to be associated with video games?

Why don't you have him open the files on his computer, have him click "save as .jpeg", and email them to you again?

Thanks- having him save as jpeg is probably my easiest bet! Wish I was knowledgable enough about computers to have come up with that myself! :)
