How to choose a pressure washer

I am considering buying a pressure washer for around the house. I live in the northwest with lots of moss and pollen every spring. I need it to wash my metal roof, field stone patio, car, tractor, riding lawn more, and whatever looks like it needs a good scrubbing. Seems all the gas powered ones have Honda motors on them, and they seem to be around 2,600psi with flow of 2.3 gallons per minute.

Any tips on what to look for? Good accessories? Etc. Thanks for any info. Any brand preferences?

Ceramic plungers so you can connect the washer to the hot water tap. Gasoline power and more pressure is better.

Let me make some general reccomendations based on my experience. 1. get the biggest unit you can afford [with in reason, you don't need a big commercial unit], virtually all of the larger units have a valve to reduce pressure if needed. It's better to have too big and turn it down, than to decide you need a bigger one later.
2.Get one with a triplex piston pump, the rotary pumps just don,t seem to hold up well.
3. Get a gasoline model, I've had a couple of electric one and they just don't hold up well.
Minimum 5.5 hp though 7,8 or 10 would be better.
4. I personally prefer Honda engines but in all honesty I doubt it makes that much difference. Just stick with a major brand name, Honda,Briggs.Kohler,etc. Sooner or later you will need parts for it.

Bought mine about 4 years ago from Northen Tool. got a 10 h.p. Tecumseh with a comet 4030 series 3 plunger pump, it kicks out 4gpm@3,00+ psi, and it will do almost any thing you will need. Remember the first regret with a PRESSURE WASHER IS THAT I NEED A BIGGER ONE! You can always slow a big one down and lower the pressure to do a small job, but you can only turn up a small one so much. I use mine to strip paint instead of sandblasting. If anything stays in place after the 3,00+ psi water hits it, it is probably a safe bet it will stay on under the new paint you put on it. With a variable pattern twist nozzle,I can turn the pressure up and don't have to stand so close when washing the house. Be sure you keep it moving with any pressure washer so you don't damage the paint you want to save and remember that high pressure water can cut skin with no effort at all. BE SAFE!! Bigger is usually better in this subject. Gene Davis

I have one from harbor freight,it is the cheapest gas powered model,it has been doing fine for 4 years now,sometimes it really gets worked hard. It is 2 or 2.5 gpm and adjustable up to 2500 psi I wold recomend it.
