before yoy buy any unit, check and see the usable hours it is built for.
Most of the Ryobi units use only one piston ring and are rated at 50 hours of life. OK for Joe average home owner.

I would stick to the 2 cycle version if you can get one. The 4 strokes have trap doors in the crankcase that is SUPPOSED to hold the oil where it should be.They don't always work and the result is a tied up engine. The 2 strokes will last 10-20 years with reasonable care, take less maintenance, have a wider power band, and can be run in any position without worrying. Stick to the brands that last like Stihl,or Echo if it will be used hard, the ryobi's are joe homeowner disposables (junk)

if your are a homeowner and replacing a trimmer that is 9 years old, ya did not get a lot of use out of it. You get what you pay for. you can spend $250.-$270. and get a good trimmer that will last for as long as you want o use one, I have a trimmer that must be 20 years old and runs like a raped ape. and I did not have to nurse it, put good gas in it and use it, new plug every year. Does the palce you are buying it from offer warranty servie if you have a problem or does it have to be sent somewhere to work on it. Lack of service is the main reason I would not ever buy a Ryobi. I had had parts ordered for them in the past that took a month to get.

Never had any dealings with the 4 cycle, but have owned one of the bigger 2 cycles for about 4 years (Click Link), and have been well satisfied with it.
