Wirefeeder / power source matching

I have an old Airco MIGhty II wirefeeder (model AHF-U1) that I would like to put to work. It seems I should be able to run it off of a power source from any of a number of manufacturers, but I don't know for sure. I have a couple of questions. The "hookup" wires include the power lead (brass, female), the 110V that powers the feeder motor, and a little two-pronged connector. First dumb question: what does the two-pronged connector do? Second, it I make an adapter can I make this feeder work with another manufacturer's power source? Third, should I just dump the thing and go buy a complete setup? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks. If I plug the feeder into 110, the torch switch (it's a Tweco #4) activates the feeder, and I can hear the gas solenoid click. So the mystery connector must switch the welding power to the torch. It's low voltage--just a little two-connector spade plug

btw, T_Bone, I looked around on the Lincoln site, but couldn't find any schematics. Found a lot of other interesting stuff I didn't know was there, but not schematics. Have you seen them there? Thanks.

You should be able to make it work just fine. The two prong plug is controlled by the trigger on the torch and is what starts the wire feeder and operates the selinoid for the sheilding gas. You should be able to wire it up to work, my Hobart MIG has spade plugs crimped onto the wires coming out of the torch and plugged into the machine rather than the oem plug. Dump it and get a new one? Depends on how much new CV power supplies cost versus a whole new unit. Hell, If you wanted to get fancy you could get a CC/CV power source and be able to MIG, TIG and stick with it LOL. Talking some serious money for that though. FWIW

Hi Bill,

Download the schematics for the machine your wanting to run. That should explain what you will need to do to make it work. Lincoln has a excellant website for this type of info.

The two wires should be for closing the power contactor coil if on the machine side or feed head switch control on the torch side. You'll need to see which your talking about on the schematics.
