I have a neighbor who is hitting my house with his paint ball gun, nothing serious but its irritating, only two or three spots on the house have shown up but we live in a heavily wooded area and I know its him (or his 6 year old boy) there are no other houses for over 1000' Back when we had snow on the ground I saw blue splattered paint all over the snow in the back part of the property. My wife suggests we get a paintball gun and hit his house, I dont want to do that. Two wrongs dont make a right. One question? Are there any laws restricting paintball guns, are they similar to pellet guns. Give me some advise guys...thanks.

One other option, catch them on video.....now you've got proof to show the parents or the cops. Check out X10.com, they've got a lot of small cameras that are cheap, easy to install and have a pretty good picture. I suggest the Nightwatch, it takes good pictures under low light conditions, though it is only B&W, also records sounds if you want. A trail camera that deer hunters use would work too, it takes nice 35mm pictures, but you have to be fairly close to the camera to activate. Unfortunately I had to find out about this stuff the hard way.

I agree with what has been said here already, but I would first have a talk with the one doing the shooting and have a talk with the parents. Be civil first and then if that fails you can always resort to law enforcement to help. Personally I would just get their names and addresses and have a talk with their parents about it, usually they are pretty pleasant to deal with unless they're drunks or drug addicts. Or you could always ask the vandal to set up a target in the yard made of plywood and shoot at it instead of your house.

I had a vandalism problem once, when I first moved into my house. Some kids (who didn't know mine were at home, since there weren't any cars on the driveway) threw a bunch of green persimmons on my white rock---made big ugly splotches on the rock. My kids identified the culprits, and when I got home later, I went around to their houses and talked to the parents. I told the parents that they had two choices----either clean up the rock, or I'd call the law and file on them. Later that evening, there were parents and kids scrubbing my rock clean. It didn't make me the most popular guy in the neighborhood, but, I never had a vandalism problem again!

AGe old story, either no parential guidance or childish parents. Call the law, also get some pictures first. However be it known, when you call the law you are automatically dubbed an A--hole. Some would rather be destructive instead of constructive. Those kind need something to do.

Not sure what terms you are on with your neighbor, but you might mention that your house has been hit with a paintball gun, and ask him if he's had the same problem. See what his response is, and let him know you called the law regarding the vandalism of your place, and that if you ever spot the rotten bugger doing it they'll be turned in pronto. Might even suggest that you'll shoot back and claim "self-defense". "...but Mr. Coroner, I didn't know it was a paintball gun....."

Back when i was in high school, a friend of mine was out one night shooting parked cars with his paintball gun, and a state trooper happened to see them do it. He wound up spending a night in jail and having to go to court on i think misdemeanor assault (that doesnt sound right) or something like it. I think if you let the local police know about it they can do something, but it'll help if you have some sort of evidence, i.e. picutres of your walls or something to back you up.

The best thing you can do is call the local law enforcement and get them to look things over. There has to be something that can be done about the problem.

A good buddy of mine had went with his friend and shoot at a guy that he disliked with a couple of paintball guns. He had to go to court and he got put on probation for assault with a weapon. What ever you do, don't get a paintball gun and do the same to his house. Once he has the evidence he can get you for trespassing and vandalism. Under certain cercumstances (a.k.a. shooting at people) paintball guns are considered weapons.

I agree, do not waste your money geting a paintball gun. You may want to have a few words with your neighbor letting him know you have contacted the law on this. He may be able to put two and two together and get the picture.

We live out in the country and live in a small subdivision. I own 10 acres across the street from my house and the neighbor kids were using the tall grass in the field to hide in and shoot at cars with a paintball gun as they went by. They made a small mistake when they hit one of the county sheriff's squad cars as it went by. We never did have any more problems after that episode.
