I didnt believe this when a friend told me, But it does seem to work.. If you have a battery that will not hold a charge, Completely discharge the battery and stick it in the Freezer overnight. Then recharge it I had a 14.4 V job that would take a charge and then the next day it would be about dead. Tried the above and it is working like new..

After freezing, do you warm the battery before charging,or charge while still frozen ?? I hope it works,I have a very expensive obsolete radio battery that needs a miricle. TIA.

I've been hoping for a response to your question as I currently have two cordless drill batteries in the freezer.

The batteries were good ones and lasted around 15 years before giving up entirely.

Hm, think I'll go put the old cordless screwdriver in the freezer and give it a try too.

My batteries are still in the freezer. Just where in the heck did I put the charger for them? Sigh!, I'm usually very good at knowing where everything is. Not this time.

I have one of my two 12 volters in the freezer also. Was kinda waiting for you to get impatience and solve that thaw - no thaw issue. Guess I'll just wing it.

Give it a try Greenbeanman, it worked on my radio battery!!. I have two very old Uniden business band portable radios that I have replaced the $90 battery aprox every 6 years. One battery shorted last year and would no longer accept or hold a charge, the dealer says no new ones are avalible. I placed the bad battery in an unheated storage shed where it was exposed to temps as low as -20 last winter. After reading the post about freezing the batteries to revive them,I retrived the battery from the shed and popped it in the charger. After 3 hrs it indicated a full charge. I placed the battery in a radio and found it had enough power to transmit for 1 hr at the 4 watt setting,just like a new battery!!. For good measure I put the now exhausted battery in the freezer overnight,then warmed and recharged it the next day. I have run the battery through normal charge/discharge cycles for several days. Today I ran the radio on standby all day so any weak cells should show up. This evening I tested voltage of my good battery and the freezer repaired one with a sensitive digital voltmeter,the Good battery indicated 11.65 volts,and the freezer repaired one indicated 11.76 !!. This seems to work,atleast on a ni-cad battery. Any Ni-Cad battery experts care to guess as to why this works?

Report back: I have a DeWalt 12v battery pack that is about 6 or 7 years old which would not hold ANY charge....zippo....nada! I put it in the freezer (3� F) overnight...took it out the next day and let it warm to room temp.....the third day I put it on the charger.....Eureka! I'm using it again in my drill and circular saw....too bad I didn't hear about this until I'd replaced it but....an extra battery is good.....right?

I placed two Skil cordless drill battery packs in my freezer, then charged one upon removal, and let the other set a day before charging. Neither took a charge. The batteries had been completely dead for about two years.

I placed a Skil cordless screwdriver in the freezer overnight, let warm to room temperature, charged and it is working again. Whee! And to think I about bought a screwdriver this past winter as a replacement. BTW, the screwdriver battery had been dead about two years also.
