Leaky air compressor tank

I picked up a old air compressor and found a small leak in the bottom of the tank. It is small enough that it builds up pressure but not very fast. Is there any safe way to fix this or should I find another tank.

Aside from the dangers outlined by others:

If one rust hole shows up, others are _just_ waiting to show up. 'Fix' one & you have another in a very short time. Any kind of welding/ brazing will bring out the new pin holes. Not worth the effort as you'll use up time & not ever have anthing without a hole in it - and i'm saying this aside from the safety aspect, which should be more important to us but too often isn't.

i've found grainger has a good selection of air tanks. they come with many ports so you can adapt most any compressor.

DO NOT attemp to repair the tank. instead, get a new tank. the proper tank for the compressor is probably expensive (if it is even still made) so don't worry about that. go and buy one of those portable air tanks and repipe the compressor to use that as the main tank.

A compromised pressure vessel is nothing to mess around with. If the tank ruptures while pressurized, it can have the force of a bomb. Many people have been injured in such cases or major damage done when the explosion happens. A loose or defective fitting or drain valve is repairable, however a rusted tank requires replacement with a new tank.

I will send you gas money to haul the tank to the junkyard as fast as you can.I had a large upright tank blow the bottom out,thank the good man above, it rode a 6 x 6 post in my shop up thru the roof and came back down about 5 feet from me,other than a loss of hearing for a few minutes and a change of underwear,no harm done

I had a tank repaired the only correct way. A piece of steel was rolled to fit the bottom half of the tank and completely welded on and tested. It cost around 100 dollars. Yours may be cheaper to buy another tank, depends on what you have.
