Lincoln SA-200 welder - oil filter

Greetings:

I recently purchased a Lincoln SA-200 gas powered DC stick welder. It has an F-163 gas engine. The oil filter on the machine right now is a Wix 51110. A replacement oil filter costs around $75. Is a less costly oil filter able to be used in this machine? If so, what type? Thanks for any help you can offer.

The WIX filters Master Catalog lists a WIX #51010 filter for the 200 amp model, and under Continental Engine F-163 they list the WIX #51010. The 51010 is listed as a cartridge type lube filter with a metal cannister.

The WIX # 51110 is listed as a spin-on lube filter, with the most common application being Wisconsin engines.

Is yours a spin-on, or a cannister filter, and is your engine in fact a Continental F-163?

Thanks for everyone who replied!

It is a spin-on oil filter and it is a Wix 51110. The name plate on this very clean engine says it is a Continental F-163. Given other people owned this welder, it is possible they put the wrong filter on, but it is working well to the best of my knowledge. I will attempt to stick with it or its equivalent unless one of you fine people know what type of spin-on filter is supposed to go on this engine.

I will try a different auto parts store in town and see if I can get a filter for a more reasonable price. The Wix web site listed one store a couple miles from me. Maybe they have the Wix or Purolator listed below.

I checked with my local WIX dealer this morning. $5.95 for the 51110! Someone was sure B.S.'ing you on the $75.00!

I went to a different autopart store. They are special ordering the Wix 51110 for me. It will be around $6. Much better!

I just changed mine on my machine.NAPA has it right in stock.Spin on and the # I think is 1050 wasn't much at all.

Well, someone is pulling your leg, according to the Purolator web site

a Wix 51110 crosses over to a Purolator L30019 which according to the Advance Auto Parts web site costs $4.98.

Follow the link below and when you get the page, click on the p/n 51110 link and you will get the specs on this filter.
