The previous post concerning the Jeep pump got me to thinking about a problem I've been trying to figure out. I was given a Western plow with hyd. pump that runs off a v-belt. I would like to mount it on a 95 chev with a 350 that uses a serpentine belt. Anybody know of a source of adapter pulleys, ideas, suggestions, etc?

One question. Will the pump handle the RPM's the truck will run ? Tractors and PTO's run a LOT slower. Maybe no problem, just a thought.

No problem about the pump RPMs, the pump is from another truck.

Hi Pete,

Check with a auto AC supplier, not a auto parts store, as they use the same clutch for truck AC units as the hydraulic units use.

Check with a truck shop, one that installs plows, dumps, hoists, etc.,one thats been around awhile. Don't know if still available, but there used to be a whole assortment of pulleys to mtg on alt to do that. Elect/hyd got popular & engine driven became fewer & fewer.A good alt shop may fix you up.Like other post, add a crank or w/p pulley. Depends on where you mtg it for belt clearance, alignment, ratio.Shop I worked at welded pump mtg to alt brkt, added pulley to alt, same size as alt.Slower the pump, slower hyd action=longer pump life.Snowplows really arn't critical, long as it works.

Just find an old style chev crank pulley that will bolt to the front of the balancer in front of the serpentine pulley. Might take a trip to the junkyard to find the right one,but there are about 25 different diameter/different backspace pullies depending on which engine you pull it off of.

Thanks for the ideas. I will following up on the them, I like the hyd. units much better than the electric. [Ya suppose I been hanging around old tractors too long?]
