AC DC welder

I recently bought a welder with AC and Dc capabilities.I have welded for years with ac.But, do not really know when or what the dc should be used for.I would appreciate some advice.

I'm have an ac only. There are some rods that are specified ac or dc. They may have the same no. For example there is a 7018 ac and a 7018 dc.

Use it for the same things DC just does a better/sronger weld then AC does
