Oxy-Propane cutting / regulator icing

I have been cutting with my Oxy - Propane rig and have noticed that the Oxygen regulator becomes covered in a thin layer of ice after a while. Is this O.K. or is it Dangerous?

Hi James,

Take it to a weld supplier that does repair and have it tested. Most regulators can be rebuilt for a resonable cost.

You spell leakeee. When gas expands, it absorbs heat. The leak sucks the heat out of your regulator making it cooler than the surrounding atmosphere. Normally the atmosphere contains moisture. Cold regulator condenses the moisture into a wet coating, but with excessive gas pressure release, more compensation is available so instead of wet, (wet and wild) is it frozen. This is the basis upon which all air conditioning systems are based.

Dangerous, probably not if in a well ventilated area. Expensive..... absolutely.
