someone on the country life forum asked about pulling water well pumps and this was my aswser in case it my be of help to you..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....you can make a rig to pull submerable pumps that are hung on poly pipe from an old motor cycle wheel and fork . no tire on the rim . fork is fitted to a clamp that goes around the well casing to secure it . designed so front of wheel is over well casing . need tee handle of apropiate size and length to screw into pitless adapter . pipe goes over wheel to vehicle to pull if desired . other wise grab the end and pull . i made my tee handle from a 5 ft piece of iron pipe threaded on both ends, a iron pipe tee and two short pieces of pipe threaded on one end.just screw them together and you have your pulling handle .most smaller residential water systems i have seen use 1 in. poly pipe and the top of the pitless adapter is threaded 1 in. for the tee handle .

That could work, unless your in a situation like me, where my well hangs on the bottom of 280 feet of 1" galvanized pipe. theres no rope either. i don't even want to think about how much that weighs. it hangs from the pitless adapter too. personally, i would leave any pump replacement to the pros.

funny story____ a while back one of my friend's well got hit by lightning. he called the well company and they came out with their truck. drove all over his lawn and bushes, smashed up a tree, etc. they finally got to the pump and hooked up their pump pulling machine only to discover the pump was 12 feet down ( actually casing went much deaper, but the high water table forces the clean water from down deep up in the casing. water is only 4 feet down.) and you could pull it by hand. (and it didn't even have a pitless adapter, so you could just grab the pipe and pull)
