I recently bought the HF Earthquake gun. with 450 ft. lbs., that thing is a beast. My old gun was pretty much only good for car lugnuts. I used to have to get out my 3/4 in. socket set and 4ft cheater bar almost every time i encountered a rusted bolt because the old gun couldn't get the job done. Now i just reach for the Earthquake. I cant believe i put up with my old piece of garbage impact gun for so long.

Ingersal rand model 231. The # 1 sold wrench, And shop around last time I checked they had em for $87. Sears also carries them,I think.Model 231 with a short anvil. You will love all that extra power. Same design for seems like 40 years I still use one I bought in 1988. Only problem, I had to put lock tight on the three allen head bolts. Two minute fix good for another 15 years I hope.

I was looking for a new impact and was reading the specs. Was surprised to read that on some of the cheaper ones maximum air pressure is 90 lbs. most good air compressers are lots more and most people I know do not use a regulater when using a big impact. One company even stated , may burst if using more than 90 lbs. That would be ugly to have it blow up in your hand. Just a thought, good luck in your search

I use the HF wrench too. I use them frequently and especially to break old iron loose.....nothing like it (after a smack of ?quot;Kroil?quot; brand penetrating oil and a few minutes for it to soak in).

When you get your wrench, get a quart of wrench oil and don't forget where you put it....use it....daily if doing lots of work..also, get a swivel (HF too) and install it right at the wrench...really keeps the air line out of the picture..... prior to use just invert the tool, insert the oil nozzle in the male air coupler at the swivel and give the can a good squeeze. Then hook her up and give her a few run run's and you are ready.

I really believe oil is the answer to longevity.

Hi Don,

Take alook at Wal-Mart for the Camble Hausfield 1/2" 250ft/lbs, approx $40. Impact 1/2" drive deep well scokets, $20. I've used mine for about 3yrs without any problems. For a cheap wrench it's held up well.

Even if you are not going to use it much, consider buying a name brand heavy duty such as the Ingersoll Rand, The two twin hammer IR's, the aluminum housing one and the composite housing one are much more powerful than the cheaper ones. The first time you cannot get the cheap one to break something loose, you'll long for the expensive one.

Whats the old saying about the bitterness of quality lingers long after the sweetness of price fades away.

My .02 worth.

I vote for an Ingersoll..... . I had to get a wheel off my skid steer. My 1/2" drive Ingersoll would not get lug nuts loose. So I brought a bottle of nitrogen & regulator from the shop to hook up to it. Finally at 250 lbs. pressure, I got nuts loose. The Wrench stood that pressure,& still works fine.

I have a Central Pneumatic Professional model from Harbor Freight. Had it for about 20 yrs and works great. This one is rated 450 ft lbs. Before that I had a cheap fly by night model that wasn't worth having. I just put a few drops of automatic trans oil in when I use it. I was told that this is a very good lubricant and it doesn't get sticky. Was told this by a mechanic.
