A neighbor called me to come and weld the hitch back on his dirtpan. He gave me 10 lb. of LaGrange 70 1/8 rods. They have been stored well and appear to be in good shape. Can anyone give me some info. on these rods? I appreciate all the advice sent my way.

Daryl made a mistake in his response to you regarding the LaGrange Welding line. LaGrange welding products are available from www.farmerschoice.com or you can call 1-800-533-8935. LaGrange 70 welding rod carries a 6013 AWS classification, however these classifications are like stated that a volkswagon and a cadilac are both automobiles. The Lagrange 70 is more of the Cadilac than the volkswagon. Obviously, I am involved with the company. We carry several differnt welding electrodes for a variety of repairs.

Naw, these are LaGrange 70 welding rods. The size is 1/8. I have 7018 rods and use them often. I think I like 7014 better for in position welding. The 7018 is better for vertical. These LaGrange rods are blue. I remember this company used to call me to try to sell me welding rods over the phone. I would tell them to send me a catalog. They would tell me the phone was their catalog. I never bought but evidently my neighbor did. I think these are a general purpose rod maybe like a 6011. Thanks

Are those 70 1/8 or 7018? 7018 rods are fairly common. These are commonly called low hydrogen rods. 7018's produce a high strength weld and can be used in all positions. These rods are a little more difficult to use than most, especially with AC current. I find they are also more sensitive to moisture damage. If there are signs of rust or the flux has developed a light, powdery coating, they may not be very good. In any event, heating them will make them run better.
