I have had an Echo saw for about 18 years, it sees about 40 hours of use a year, the only problem I have had has been to replace a fuel filter, plugs and bars/chains, I had it serviced at local John Deere dealer, I believe they used to sell Echo with the JD logo. I also have two Echo weed eaters and have owned one of them for about ten years,They are a little expensive but last a long time and are well made. Johnny

Echo.

When they first came on the scene they were (for a time) the technological wonder of the chainsaw world. For ease of starting, overall reliability and price they couldn't be beat. It was the beginning of the end for Homelite and McCullough
as dominant saw manufacturers.

Now the rest of the chainsaw world seems to have caught up and or passed them.

I haven't used one for years, but think they are still a good saw.

Overall the top 'pro' saw brands are the Husky followed by Stihl. Other people on this board have had good things to say about Jonserds.
(sp) but they are a lot less common.

I'm not familiar with that Echo model and how 'big' it is, but good firewood and farm saws from Husky and Sthil run right around $300 (+-) with a 20" bar. (I like to run my saws in that size range with a 24" bar for a little nose heavy balance, but a 20" will do nice.)

Hope this helps.

I had an Echo chain saw (model 650)at one time.It was a very good saw.I had cut a lot of wood with that saw , and never had a problem. I would say that was the best chain saw I had ever had. I have had many different brands. My uncle still uses it to this day.It doesn't get the use it once did. He might cut up a load or two of loggs each year(about 20-40 face cord).Still runs great and problem free. That is when echo was orange in color. The saw must be about 20 years old by now. I also have an orange echo brush cutter(model 2502).Another very good machine. I've worked it very hard for long long hours. It also runs like the day it was new. I have never done a thing to it. Not even change the spark plug. It's about 12 years old now. I have not had any experiance with echo , since they changed the color to grey. Bad color move! The orange was easy to see , should you need to scan the area to see where you last set the saw down. No one wants to run over or drop a tree on thier saw or anything else. As good as echo has been to me , If I were to buy another saw , I would probably buy a Husqevarna. My brother has two or three of them. I'm quite empressed. With up to date features , performance , and technology , they are the best chainsaw I have ever seen or run. They are orange in color. I have one of his old Husqevarna saws. It's about 20 years old , and performs about the same as my echo , when I use to have it.
