On 8/25/00 UAW membership voted to go on strike against Snap On. Show your support of the union by boycotting Snap On. Buy MAC TOOLS!

Being on the union label committe for my local, I have passed your info on and as we are a major airline local, it will be passed nationwide to all our mechanics. We DO buy a lot of tools. So does out toolroom. Hope the company comes to its senses quickly.
Good luck
Union Guy

Thanks again for your support. Just wanted to share how the company is bargaining in "good faith". Strike vote 8/25, first negotiation 9/19, next negotiation 10/17 as the lead company negotiator has to go to the Olympics and to Europe for vacation. Nice to know the vacation of one person is more important to Snap On than negotiating with the Union. Someday the children of these employees will be tool buyers and guess what tool they won't be buying. Snap On to them means you can't go, can't buy, can't have right now.

So spread the word -- Snap On is still on strike -- DAY 27 and counting.

I have used snap-on,mac and matco since 1984. In that time I have had one snap-on dealer (RICH). Mac and Matco dealers are around for a year or two then they are gone. After six months to a year a new man shows up talkin smart and bad mouthing SNAP-ON. All I've ever said to them is"well at least he is here every week". I've had difficult time getting MAC and MATCO tools replaced. When a dealer goes out of business, you have to send broken tools to the regional distrbution. That can take up to two months to get the tool back, and YOU have to pay the shiping. I like all three brands, but MAC and MATCO are not reliable in my case. After two years I have another new MAC dealer. He's a nice kid,but how long is he going to last . MAC support is terrible.

I didn't know about the union vs Snap On, but I'd refrain from buying MAC...price is equal to Snap On, quality is half what Snap On is, and dealer support and warrant are 1% of Snap On.

I agree, since Stanley bought MAC, they are more interested in making junk for the do-it-yourselfers, homeowners, and wannabees. Get on a MAC tool truck and they are peddling more knives and knick-knacks than a flea market. Before Stanley bought them, they used to offer a lot of heavy duty tools for construction equipment along with some shop equipment, then they just seemingly dropped all the sizes over 1 1/4 inch.

Not at all. I don't care what brand you buy as long as it's not Snap on. We're on strike, so show your support by at least telling the dealer you'll buy when the strike is settled.

Having worked in the mechanical field for non-union companies, I can say, yes, I did go home with my full check every week.

It was still a lot less than a union worker took home for the same job.

I used to work for a non union co. The union was outside the gate many times trying to convert people. The companys answer to the problem was they paid us .10 above union scale. It was fine with me. I don't work there any more, but still not union.

Actually they didn't. The pay was that from the get go. Kinda hard to sell someone if you can't offer something better. Had better ins. and benefits too. Now for the good part, I quit after 2 years. I was 20 years old and thought I had to be in town chasing girls on friday and sat. Didn't like the shift work. Dummy me. I would have had 20 years in now.

The unionman's statement of "more money than brains" when condeming Snap-On buyers just shows his ignorance. In some areas, I know of alternatives that are sold through industrial supply houses that might be more cost effective, but, seldom superior to Snap-On.

My experience is fairly broad as I've worked for and/or represented competitors to Snap-On for the past 20 years and have considerable respect for the products offered by Snap-On.

Several of their products are the best in the world with most all being at least near the top in quality.

There are applications and people who need the best and, for them, Snap-On is the logical choice.

For me, I can live with something less, but, many Snap-On users have both brains and money so our union man just confirmed that he doesn't understand the broader picture of the handtool industry.

don't tell union man but kobolt sold at lowes is made by snap on. they use the same steel but differant forge dies, the wrenches are thicker , won't fit in as tight a spot but stronger. the best tool on the market for the money i think. however mine are snap on i bought them before lowes started the kobolt line.

Cathy Lee Gifford quit Regis and leased a sweatshop out to Mac and Snap on both. As soon as she can get the orphan children trained in on lathes and forge work they're back in production.

Snap-On and Mac are both gonna be the featured tools at Wally World and K-Mart next year, and there will be a etched, raised letter rachet bar in the Martha Stewart's Living section of K-Mart's.

Next season Snap-On will offer an "Air Jordan" 3/8" impact wrench that runs on Gator Aid.

Is there any truth to the rumor that K-Mart will begin selling an atomic impact wrench that can also provide power for all the other tools in your shop?

That's what they're claiming.

They said they'll be near the dry bean section of groceries so I bet they'll really run on methane instead of atomic tho.
