I Beam capacity?

Does anyone have the formula or a chart that gives the load capacity for a 12" I-Beam? I have one that's 18 feet long with a "fishmouth" joint at 5 feet. The joint is 100% penetration with 7018 rod, the web is 5/16" thick. I'd like to use it for a monorail hoist - where can I find what the safe working load is in a single point center span load? I also have some 8" WF beams 16 ft long that may become a hoist if I can find the load capacity. The max. load I'd be working with would be about 4k. Thanks!

Just receintly someone mentioned the Machinery Handbook (in dealing with size of drill bits for taps). That book has the spects for your I beams also. And about any other info you might need.

In the past week or so, there were Posts with questions such as yours and some very technical answers from Professional Engineers...might look that up. Anytime you put something over your head you want to make darn sure it stays..... up.
