I might have seen this question discussed before. Can't find it. I have a Lincoln ac/dc welder and generator that I got used. There is a knob that is in between the amp knob and the ac/dc+-dc- knob but up a little higher than those two knobs. I have been told that it is to fine tune the amperage. If I turn it low, it seems to make it harder to strike an arc. I didn't get a book with the welder. It is a Weldanpower model # WPG 8000. Thanks

The knob is called the Output Control. On my portable welder it provides welding current adjustment between the Output Selector Switch settings in the CC (constant current) mode and welding voltage control with the Output Selector set in the CV (constant voltage, used for MIG welding) mode. I agree with the other response in looking at Lincoln Electric's web site. Home page is www.lincolnelectric.com/default.asp. A printable parts list for your welder can be found (I think)at www.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/services/customer/pdf/parts/P211.PDF

I would guess it was for fine tuning. Some times I wish I could fine tune my Lincoln AC/DC when I weld some very thin material. Most of the time , it's OK.
