Pressure washer ??

I'd like a pressure washer for a little machine clean up & taking a little old paint off some buildings. Money is an issue. ;) I always heard 2000# pressure at least or it doesn't pay to buy one?

So, on the cover of the Northern Tool & Equip catalog I just got is a 2.5gal, 2600 PSI North Star pressure washer, Honda 5hp engine.

Is this something worth getting? At $400 it's a bit of change - but Honda & 2600psi sounds good. Better deals somewhere, better machines, ???

Keep in mind, Honda has two lines of engines these days. One is an OHC, and although not a bad motor, it's pretty much a throw away. The other is the one they built there reputation on, and it's there industrial OHV model.

In my opinion, the OHV Honda is the best small gas motor made.

Ok then - the $600 sprayer has the OHV engine. The $400 model has a 5hp Honda GC160 - whatever that is....

Thus for the extra $200 you get a better pump and much better engine - I guess?

Still $400 is a good price...

The Honda GC160 is the cheaper motor. Personally, i like to buy quality, and would go for the OHV motor.

For $400 that does look like a nice unit. I had one rated like it from Sam's that the pump just gave out on. For around the home/farm/ranch I'd say it's got ok power for cars, trucks, boats, etc. Much more & you'll be peeling paint plus bigger $.

My question is: I hear Comet makes good pumps, but what's the diff between their "axial" pump and their "direct drive triplex" pump? The Northern upgrade cost $200 more. Anyone out who can spread some insight?

Mine's rated at 2200psi and 3gpm. Powered by a 5.5hp Honda - one of the best tools I own. I would suggest these specs are a pretty good compromise between performance and affordability. With this level of performance, you can cut grease and dirt off machines, pretty well, but be careful on wood, as it can do damage if you get too agressive. A friend cut the plastic trim on his car bumper, so you need to be careful here too. Do not be impressed with high pressure at the expense of water flow either - 2.5 to 3gpm is a minimum for efficient cleaning.

I got one from Tractor Supply just recently. Has I think 2550 psi(maybe 2650), anyhow in that ballpark. 6.5 Briggs engine and lots of cleaning power. I have only used it once so far to try it out and I like it. Horizontal shaft motor, inflatable tires on the cart, and nice height on the handles and is easy to get around. Was under $400 bucks on sale but still under $400 off sale too. I personally won't buy a powered product mostly unless it has a Briggs on it. When I upgrade to a Ranger 8 Lincoln welder that probably won't be the case as I think if I remember right they had Kohlers on them? In any case I like the pressure washer! Its nice!

I have one just like it, it has a different name on it and the frame is a little different but it is the same engine and pump. It does a pretty good job, to get sheet metal really clean it will still need some light hand rubbing but I am wanting to get one of those rotating brushes that attaches to the end of the wand. I am happy with the job our's does, bigger would be nice once in a while but overall it will get the job done.

That 2600#PSI washer will do a purty dog gone good job. You can write your name in the paint job, on a new pickup truck. Just a little slow cleaning heavy stuff like bulldoziers, trucks, and tractors, sometimes have. I let my mother n law knock the heavy stuff off with a cold chisel, and putty knife. goof

A few years ago I had the same idea paul.

UFC have any used ones?? Might be better for service close by. Not sure.


I got a small electric one from Wal-mart for around $140 i think. 1300 psi. Has served me well the last 7 yrs. For the most part, it does what I want.

I did borrow a "big" steamer from Anker's a number of years ago for a combine radiator. That being said, I can wreck a radiator as fast with the little one that I could with the big one..LOL. My little one I can pick up and carry around.. the cart was a bit cumbersome moving around, but had longer hose. Pluses and minuses.

When this one needs to be replaced, I'll opt for hot water at minimum. Equipment clean up is quicker with the heat. Motor or electric guess would be the difference if you had 220 available where you will wash. I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the bigger ones need 220, smaller ones 110.
