Very first thing to do is to pull the end cover off and look inside of the cover and see if it has slung any solder...if it hasn't then look at the brushes and commutator...if they look okay and the general appearance says okay and it runs good...take a chance on it for the quoted $200. But, get a stipulation that as soon as you get leads for it and try it out...you have a bring back privelege...so you will still be friends. Fred OH

Howard: $200 sounds like a bargain--while the Wisconsin engines are rather expensive to repair, they are a decent setup if they're running right. You should be able to get the leads for less than $100 complete with stinger and ground clamp. This would give you about $300-400 in the whole setup, which is quite reasonable for a generator/welder combo.

Where are the cables, clamp, etc? Anytime a seller say "I don't know where that part is", something is fishy. Try to borrow a set of cables to test the welder before purchase.

Cables will run any where from 1/2 dollar up to around $2 a foot depending on what you get, the longer the heavyer you will need, as far as the battery I'd use a car battery so around $40. I payed $250 for one a few years ago and the engine was locked up so I'd say any where from there up to around $2000 depending on age etc.
