I want to build Cool House Plan # 18132, 1852 heated sq. ft. Is there anyway that I can hire a knowledgeable carpenter for $20.00 an hour plus a bonus? To be built near Smiths, and Phenix City, Al. I expect to do much of the work myself.I have access to several pieces of dirt moving equipment, such as a Cat crawler loader,Ford loader backhoe, 6610 Ford w/boxblade. I would like to build, for about $100, Thanks for any help. alvinnms

What kinda bonus? $20 per hour seems cheap.

I met a guy once that built his own house - he was his own general contractor.
The deal he worked was that when he hired a sub -
framer, plumber, electrician, etc was that he was hired on to that crew for a 'nominal' fee.
That way he was there to see the work going into his house and it also provided him with cash flow. He learned a lot about all the trades and was on-site to answer questions as they arose.
