Use a good premix oil like Husky or Stihl. Mix it per the oil manufacturer spec; most new oils are 40 or 50:1. They come in little bottles that mix with 1 gal or 2 gal of gas. Use a good quality gas. It's a tiny engine that revs, though not as high as newer saws. Still, good gas will run better, and it does not really use that much... The saw may have a spec, like 16:1 using Homelite oil. It was made to run at that mix because the oil was designed and made for that specific ratio. They probably do not make that oil any more. The newer oils are better formualted, and are made to lubricate properly at a higher ratio, ie 50:;1 ect. If you run leaner than the oil is designed for, you will not get enough lubrication. If you run richer than designed for, you will waste oil. It will get in the spark arrester screen. It will tend to smoke, load up plugs,, and run warmer. Also, use fresh gas/oil mix. The oils start breaking down in the gas mixture in 24-48 hours. Although many folks use old mixes, it is not the best thing to use in a high-performance hi-rpm motor. It will start easier, run better, and generally be a happier saw to use. I mix 1-gal at a time, so I do not tend to have much left over.
