Milwaukee is the only way to go!!

I burned out 2 B&D/Dewalts when building my shop. The 1/2 inch MWKE Hammer Drill has been there through and through. This is the second MWKE power tool I have bought. All future hand power tools will be MWKE.

If You check DEWALT's catalog They make a slower RPM drill, 500 RPM instead of their 850 RPM with the same amp motor. It has three stage gearing instead of two stage. It's normally about $10 more than the normal 1/2" VSR drill and Well worth the $$$$$. The Milw. drill is 650 RPM with fewer amp motor than this DeWalt. Plus the Milw. costs much more. The DeWalt is the better drill IMHO. You can NOT stall this drill even when using the side mounted handle. Plus it's still a Pistol grip just an inch longer and a pound or two heavier than my 3/8" drill. I've snapped off 1/2" lag bolts with it and never even had it slow down. I work about 10 miles from Milwaukee's plant... but the DeWalt parts store is only 3 miles down the street!

Don't know about the Dewalt. But I have a Milwaukee Holeshooter that is over 35 years old and has never had a problem. Works as well now as it did new.

I've sold both for a few years and NOBODY has ever brought a Milwaukee back for any reason. The quick-lok cord is a great feature. There is a 50' quick-lok available as well.

I'd pay extra to get a Milwaukee _without_ that goofy cord. The Quik-Lok connector is a weak design and expensive to replace. A fixed whip cord with an extension makes more sense.

I have never heard anyone complain about the cord before this. I have it on a 3 different tools and it has held up great.

I've talked to several people who didn't like them. There's no point to having it unless you're in the habit of wrecking your cords every day. It adds weight, complexity, and price to the tools. When your connector breaks you have to buy a $20 cord with a new one attached.

I'll have to dig,but B&D is a MD based company, and they contributed heavily here to anti gun groups/politicians and initiatives.I believe they were on the NRA's list, and know they were also mentioned in the MD affiliate,MDRPSA.Turned me off to them,FOREVER. Dave

MD-Maryland.B&D was involved in a big push here in '88 for a horrendous gun control bill, that went to referendum.I checked with someone active in the state gun-rights org,and he too remembered. They are not listed on the current NRA site (www.nraila.org go to "ISSUES),so maybe they are only active in their own backyard.Either way,I'll never buy anything they're selling again.Dave

Any anti-gun support by B&D is important to me also. I've been looking at buying a corded 3/8 drill and if B&D is anti-gun I'm marking them off the list.

I guess I just bought my last B&D in 2003. Won't buy another one again now that I know their position.

Milwaukee hands down, use them at work, great low speed and enough torque to crush your hand if the bit catches (ya, been there).

No comparison, Go with the Milwaukee. The DeWalt is just a yellow Black & Decker.

Hi Dave,

I bought a 1/2" Milwaukee VSR Magnum thats one great drill motor with alot of torque for it's size. I've reamed 3/4" holes and snapped the bit on the 3/4" end.

I have a older Makita 1/2" that is also a good motor, approx the same size, but has a cheap chuck.

However there not a replacement for a Milwaukee hole hog.

I agree with RF... millwaukee has the torque, the slow speeds and a great dependable name.. but the latest one I bought (1/2" hole hog) has a removable (twist lock) cord.. which I like for storing...

Milwaukee is a commercial grade unit. I've had both and the Dewalt is fine for homeowners..but not for heavy use.

I sell and service all brands of Power Tools. Milwaukee and Makita are problbly the best for longevity and eas of use. Yes Dewalt is owned by Black & Decker but so is Porter Cable,Delta,Emglo, and a couple of smaller tool and accessorie makes.Makita is the only company out there that makes power tools and only power tools.
