opens and closes by itself, and no longer responds to hard wire button. What gives? I guess the brain is fouled up. Is this worth fixing. The parts must be more than the whole unit will cost. Any imput will be helpful...mike

If it's a newer model with the 2 sensors, check the lens for cleanliness/alignment. also your adjustable controls may need to be adjusted. I have 1 noisy sears and 1 quiet genie. Wish I had 2 genie's. If it needs more than the above, its not worth $ to repair it.

iceman,

How old is the unit? Has it given you trouble before? I had a Sears unit myself years ago, and it was nothing but trouble! It was a chain-driven affair, the contacts that the 'traveller' contacted on the high/low limits broke, and the chain needed adjustment several times. When we moved to a place in the country, we built a new two-car garage and installed Genie screw-drive openers. Haven't had a bit of trouble with them (installed in '92).

Just my two cents worth!

Good luck!

Ron

It's a 1990 model.Worked fine all along. It is noisey. No contacts on the trolly. thanks for all responses. It looks like the problem was a sticky button on one of the remotes...mike

Very Good !!
Your noisy Sears will still be running when the Junk Genie's Lock's up. If you have them very long you go back to Chamberlin which is who makes Sears.
Just my 2 cents worth!!

Had a Sears late 80's or early 90's model. We got hit by lightening and it fried the circuit board. The price of a new board was better than half a new unit. Said thank you very much and bought a Genie screw drive when I went to install it I found that I was missing one of the couplers for the screw, I called them and they OVERNITED one at no charge plus apologized for my inconvenience.
