Millermatic 135 Welder Question

I'm somewhat new to welding and wondering if when purchasing a welder such as the Millermatic 135, do you have to purchase the "spoolmatic 3035" wirefeeder and gun in addition to the welder in order to weld aluminum? Is this a separate purchase from the welder in order to weld aluminum or is the Millermatic 135 system complete and ready to weld aluminum? I know you have to purchase the cylinder/gas separately. Any help would be appreciated.

I would hope you don't need a spool gun with a 135. A spool gun is used when you have long leads, the 8-10ft lead on a 135 is fine for al. On my Hobart 200 beta mig (12 ft lead) I just change the steel wire to aluminum wire and weld away (I use 100% argon for steel and Al). Last time I bought a liner, I asked the weld supply shop if i needed a seperate liner to do Al with my machine and he told me not to worry about it. If your only welding Al on occasion I would not worry about changing anything over, just be sure you have 100% argon gas.

Thanks for the info. I'll talk more with the guys at the welding shop. When I saw the prices for a spoolmatic and adapter I just about died. Most of my welding will be on small stainless steel and occassional some AL. I figured on a Miller because of its durability and good reputation. Again thanks!

I purchased mine about 1 month ago,I looked in the book and can'tfind anything about aluminum,I think you use a different liner but same gun.The roller is for .023 and .030 wire.I saw a guy with the spool gun, he used it with his trailblazer stick welder.I paid $541 for mine at BRWELDER.com.Free ship and no tax,call them and I know they can help you.I weld stainless with mine and can't get that frying sound with it,I can get the sound with a stick welder.Good luck.
