I want to build a hydraulic fence post puller to mount in the bucket of my tractor. I would like it to be able to pull steel and wood posts to 6inch diameter. Anyone built one or have plans, pictures or ideas, I would like to hear them.

i saw a picture of a puller a farmer had made that was like log tongs. made from 6 inch channel (c inside) pivoted with teeth welded to the bottom inside of the "c". was hanging from a boom lift attachment. you dropped the tongs down with the boom. lifted with the boom which clamped the tongs. it had a rope to pull to release the tongs. not as positive as your hydraulic system but lots easier to make. Think it might have been farmers journal. recently visited a net site that had a mini log loader/handler that sounds like it would do the job something like ironwoodsplitter.com

Check out Farm Show magazine. Lots of ideas there.
A cd is available with 25 years of the best.

I built a tree puller that sounds like what you want. I couldn't get a picture to link onto this message, so I'll send it directly to you. If was made of 2" angle welded into 2" box channel (didn't have box channel to start with) and has a hydraulic cylinder to clamp one movable arm. I have it mounted to my 3 point on a JD 950 (27hp) tractor. It'll pull a 2" tree out pretty easily. But it is awkward to use from the 3 point. However, the bucker doesn't have enough umpf on my tractor to pull trees.

The advantage over a chain is that I can do it by myself.

My hope is to mount it on a skidsteer and go to town get rid of the small trees on my overgrown place. Don't want to bruch hog these small trees cause I don't like small stumps.

I just wrap a chain around them and raise the bucket and like magic the post is out.
What more is there.

Thats the way I do it now but when your replacing 80 rod sections at a time by myself that means I have to position and get on and off the tractor 100 plus times with posts at 12 foot spacing! Thanks for all the other posts eveyone. Scott.
