Mr.Cowman,
Here's a bladesmith talking.Puma knives are
good fora poduction brand.I've been making
knives for about three years.The steels I use
are 5160,1085 or 1095,all oil harden.All the
blades I make are handforged not ground out of
a blank piece of steel.You can tell if a knife
is ground to shape it just doesn't look right.
I like using a gas forge rather than coal.
I have better control of the heat.Any knife
I make you can take and cut mild steel and it
will still shave hair.If it won't i'll eat my
steel toe boots. Just my 2cents worth.
P.S If you have any tips on pulling a Farmall Super C,Please let me know. Thanks.

Funny, I was just thinking about a puma knife yesterday. Why I don't know. Many years ago I was an Infantry man in Vietnam. I carried a M60 and a puma knife. The 60 was forever tangled in wait-a-minute vines and the puma was was forever getting it out. The sucker held an edge as well if not better then any knife I ever owned. I used it for every thing from openning c-rats when I lost my p-38 to toasting little slices of canned bread and spreading jelly on my little round toast slices.
When I left Vietnam I passed on the knife with the 60. I have tried to replace the knife with one just like it and other brands, but I have never found one near as good. Wished I could find out what happended to that knife, I hope it served others as well as it served me.

Great knives !!! I have a Puma "White Hunter" Hunting Knife. Funny story how I got it. One Monday morning about 20 years ago, at the place I worked, we discovered the Dumpster was full of stuff someone had put in over the weekend... It was full of all kind of things like fishing rods & reels, tackle boxes, holsters, ammo, etc. evidently some woman had gotten upset & dumped all of her husband's toys in there..... . All the guys at the shop had a lot of stuff to take home that day.

Expensive, but top quality. I have one (single blade lock back w/ stag) that I bought 20 years ago for $100. I think at that time retail was around $165.

Puma is in my opinion one of the best knives made they hold edge real good.Made from good metal.
