Guess it depends on where you live, regardless, I would be afraid of the liabilities if some one got torn up by it.

There's no federal law against barbed wire fences in the city limit. It's not their jurisdiction.

But, there very well may be a city law, zoning ordinance, community bylaw, covenant, etc that prohibits it.

Ray, I am almost certain that it would depend on the zoning rules imposed. If you live in a one horse town, you likely can put up anykind you want, then become chairman of some association, and pass a law that every property owner in town must put one up just like yours or pay a professional fence installer double the normal amount, and have the cost added to their taxes, goof

Federal law, that I would very much doubt, no way this would be federal jurisdiction. State laws in places maybe, city ordinance probably, homeowners deed restriction certainly.

In my subdivision you can only use wood fence if it on the boundary and may not be in front of th build line.

I had a place in a subdivision where no fences of any kind were allowed, not even hedges.

Where I live you can't use barbed wire or even woven chicken wire. Chain link is okay. All fencing proposals have to be submited for a building permit and approval before installation.

Personally I'd like about a 20' tall fence between one neighbor and myself. The other three sides don't matter.

I'm sure there is you cant usually put up chain link in a city.
Get a underground one,the best pet investment I ever made.

Yeah, those underground things are great except for the smart dog that can figure out how to get out. A neighbor down the road has a beautiful chocolate lab that walks up to the "shocking" point then backs up a few yards and runs like a bat out of H... and at the right point leaps over the "shocking" zone. He then trots over to the corner of the driveway and lies there 'til his master comes home from work:)
