i would say the best protection would be to not leave the tanks in the field overnight. the next best thing would be to hide them behind a tree row, over the hill, whatever. I'm sure those guys just drive the backroads looking for easy targets.

Anhydrous ammonia is used in drugs?? I've never heard of this, I guess you learn something new every day.

I'm not sure if anhydrous is used in the drugs, or just in the making of them.

I called the police last week on my neighbors, but they didn't seem all that interested in investigating. I think they are probably both manufacturing and selling.

Not sure if it is connected, but they rolled a mortar mixer into the garage last week. Maybe for big batches? Maybe they're making concrete statuary.

I think counseling is the way to go.

Explain to the poor downtrodden wretches how harmful those ilicit drugs are. Detail the deliterious efects of methamphetamines, or "crank". Outline the legal implications of being caught stealing anhydrous ammonia, not to mention what will happen if the DEA raids their lab. Point out the health hazards of the chemicals used in the process of manufacturing, and the fact that a fair percentage of those labs self-destruct by fire and explosion, killing the operators.

Of course, it would be best to do this while holding a loaded shotgun ;)

Sorry, I got carried away. I don't know what to do, but I know it's very real problem in many areas. I went to a seminar for fire officers a few years ago that was put on by the DEA to teach us what to look out for when responding to fires that may be in clandestine rural drug labs. Left there with some real fear of coming across one of them by accident. The DEA guy started by saying that they were sure there was a lab within 10 miles, they just haven't found it yet. Real grim stuff.

Had a couple officers injured the other day, made a raid and evidently opened the wrong thing. Friend of mine turns his dogs loose on them, but either the dogs vanish or come home with messy eyes, maced I would imagine. Guess it is legal to steal the stuff but illegal for you to protect your own property.
