I need to fix the door skin on my 72year old moms S-10 truck, anyone know how to get the interior door panel off to hammer out the dents? or If I cnat fix the dents that way, does anyone know where I ca nget the door skin for the right door, I also need an aluminum 3rd door handle, the original cheap plastic one broke off on me one day. If you know of a place that has the parts I want at a fair price and is NOT called ebay, let me know.

Say, if you don't know anything about auto body work, i want to warn you about one thing---the dents don't pop out like they went in!! That's an '02 truck, and i'm quite sure your mom won't be happy when you bring the truck back with the door looking like a "bag of walnuts"! Better get professional help, and next time, be more careful with her truck! RJ

I know that the dents dont pop out as easily as they went in, but I DIDNT DO IT SHE DID!!! That makes me feel better knowing that I did not put the dent or should I say crater in the door, she did it when she was paying more attention to a parking space on the left than the pole on the right that met the door and the rear fender. Thats funny though, bag of walnuts,I could just use a bag of them to beat the dent out with.

Sorry, didn't mean to infer that you busted the door! Now, the interior trim panel is usually held on by either plastic trim clips, which break when you pry on them, or metal spring clips. The arm rest usually has 2 screws underneath to take out--but, sometimes the arm-rest is made in the trim panel, not separate. And there may be little plastic plugs over the screws. If the dent has heavy creases in it, you will probably have to replace the outer panel. Used to be, the outer panel was spot welded on to the inner frame of the door, but lately everything is glued together. I've replaced these glued panels. It is simple enough. you have to remove the door, grind around the folded edge of the door, just enough for the old panel to pop off! (well, with some help) Then take off the strip of tin on the inside of the edge. Then grind the inside edge all the way around. Try the fit of the new panel, making sure it fits good. Make a few alignment marks on the inner edge, to help in aligning the panel. After you get it to lay on the frame, you run a strip of automotive structural adhesive clear around the inner edge. Lay the panel on it, clamp it in place, fold the edge in flat, allow it to all set up, then get somebody to paint the door and hang it! Believe me, it is much better to take it to somebody who has the equipment and expertise to do the job right! Take this bit of advice from a retired auto-body man! Rusty Jones

I think J.C. Whitney might carry them. Check them out.

Most of the new "sheet metal" is very difficult to work with.Panel replacement or component replacement is the order of the day nowadays.Skins are even hard to find.Easiest would be new door shell.Although I have not dealt w/these guys yet,I've heard some good things.

If you have small dents (say less than 1 inch in diameter), check around and find out if there's anyone in your area who can take them out from the outside. This requires special techniques (I don't know the details), but they can take out dents without repainting.

I've never had the door inner panel off of an S-10, but all late model GM vehicles are the same: Remove a few screws, maybe the handle, then give the panel a good jerk and it will pop off. The panel is retained with "Christmas tree" fasteners that usually break when you pull the panel. Just replace the fasteners with new ones when you're done and pop it back on.

Good suggestion about calling in someone to remove dents. A friend had a Suburban, between parking lot dents & his kids hitting it on bikes, it had several dozen dents & dings. He called the local "Dent Doctor" & one hour & $125.00 later, it looked like new !! I watched the guy do it, he had a bunch of special tools, and as he said it.... "Massaged out the dents"

Go to your local auto parts store and ask to see a trim/panel fork. The fork is a two prong bent prybar with a screwdriver handle. This slides between the panel and door, when sliding you'll find every six inches or so there are retainers that hold panel to the door. Slowly pry the panel from door, some will pop and some break, just work your way around the door.

you might try motorhaven.com

I know that they have skins for Ford equipment, but I am not sure about Chevrolet.
