START CAPACITOR FOR 1/2 HP MOTOR

I have been given an Emerson model 7896 110/220 volt motor that is missing the start capacitor. Does anyone know what capacity this capacitor should be?

I had a similar experience with another brand of motor. I called the factory with the model and serial number and they looked it up and gave me the original capacitance for the motor. Good luck.

That should take a 7.5 or a 10 mfd 370 start cap.Look on the I.D. plate of motor see if it is listed there.

That 10 mfd or 15 mfd rating would be for a RUN capacitor, if used. Those values would be WAY inadequate for start capacitor use.

If he needs the start capacitor, it will be something like 250 mfd, rated at least 125 Volts.

This value is close enough to use for average applications.

It might be as high as 350 mfd at 250 Volts.

The value is not critical, for average use, but if the motor starts heavily loaded, the closer to the original rating the better!

You are correct I wasn't thinking clearly yesterday.Our Church Held a special service for my brother who passed away DEC.22 from cancer.
