I recently looked at a Cub Lo-Boy and was wondering what it might be worth and what to inspect to detect possible existing problems. It's a 1976 with 800 hours. Comes with a 3 gang reel mower, umbrella, 48" Woods belly mower, a wagon which is pretty small and cheesy looking, and a lawn roller that isn't very heavily constructed. Don't recall seeing a PTO shaft. It started up and ran like a little sewing machine. No exhaust smoke. No apparent hydraulic leaks to the hitch assembly. Haven't driven it yet. Will these pull any sort of plow or disk and are attachments like that easy to find? It also has turf tires. Would those need to be replaced to work in dirt? Should I hold out for something a little bigger? Asking price is $3000.00. Thanks for any info.
Steve

Thanks to everyone for the good info. I better hold out for something a bit bigger. I've got too many things now that just mow. Sounds like the Lo-Boy might be prone to problems too.
Thanks again,
Steve

Steve, I have an IH 184, about like yours, 3pt, 5ft belly mower, turf tires. Like AD said, the pto is a weak spot, had problems with the bearing at the end of it, the electric clutch is out of it now. I also had quite a bit of problems with the clutch fork. I bought it to replace a worn out cub, from day one I wish I had the cub. The turf tires let it get stuck in low spots when wet. I can use a box blade, but just to do light touch up, can't haul dirt. Paid 2200, but spent 700, then 500 right off. Probably too light to do what you want. Do look good though, and you can cover a lot of ground mowing, huge fuel tank. Dave

Steve, I agree with AD. My uncle has one. He says it's a good mowing machine, but not much else. The pto should be high on the rear, usually just a pulley. That's a good price though, around here.

Well seeing as no one else has made comment I will relate my experince with a Cub Lo Boy. The fellow that owned the farm I rented had one and I used it to mow around the barn and fences with and kept a small pasture where he had a pet cow. It was a good lawn tractor but that just about covers it. Not enough power to pull much and with the turf tires it is really limited. The one he had was equiped with the lug tires and did ok but just watch the shaft from the transmission to the rear end. It was a weak feature and I replaced the connector two or three times. If you really need something to pull a plow or disk with look for something else. Just my 2cent opinion. AD
