Ive hear Victor is the brand to stick with. But i see a wide range of prices on Victor setups. Are they basicly the same torch with different tips, regulators and hoses? If i was to buy a cheap Victor outfit could i upgrade easily. I wouldnt use it everyday, but want quality and if the need arises, want something that can be upgraded to do the job. What does it cost to get set up with tanks. Can u buy tanks or do u lease them. Im in maine and would probably deal with maine oxy, althought they are in many other states also.
thanks for any incite

Victor "Journeyman" was the standard industrial torch kit for years and years. I've had mine for 25 years or so. They aren't cheap but they are worth every penny. I haven't shopped lately, but I think they still make that kit.

If you are careful and 'back off' your regulators when not in use they'll last a waaay long time.

I have been really intrigued by the gasoline-fueled torch that was posted on the board awhile back.. The messages should be in the archives ?
I think it was 'petrogen ?' but my memory is fuzzy these days.

Around here you have to 'buy' your tanks... but it's actually a 'lifetime' lease/exchange arrangement.

Hi chief,
I enjoyed our e-mail conversation the other day.

I posted some info on Victor below. I can gaurantee it to be more accurate than my opinions on wiring :).

The torch outfits can be tailored to fit your needs. You pay for accessories and you pay for finish. You also pay for output. We will break up sets and sell individual components to eliminate unwanted items where we can.

I have several torches personally. Not all of them are Victor. The one I use the most is the medium duty Victor. I use it to braze, cut, spray, heat, bend, pierce, etc. I do have a big Purox cutting torch that will cut like a fool and it will outperform the smaller Victor on major cutting jobs. If you do lots of cutting on heavy sections the Victor Journeyman series would be comparable to the Purox. Steve
