I'm looking for a source for reasonable cost 3 phase converter. 220 SP to 220 3 phase.
Thanks

Dick

Reasonable? or cheap? Cheapest to purchase for one machine is one of the staic jobs, there is no 3rd phase when running so you get about 2/3 of data plate HP. Cheapest of any kind is a free 3 phase motor around 1.5 times your motor and adapting a lawn mower recoil starter to get it turning before you hit the switch, This was my first one and depending on the motor used and load will generate from some to a lot of the 3rd leg and can be made better with capacitors if you so inclined. The VFDs work fine too, I run a Roto-Phase because I run 6 different machines from it, bought it new for 2/3 retail, which was not cheap but fits my definition of reasonable. Do a search titled "home made phase convertor" to get more info than you can use if that's your inclination.

To power one motor from your single phase source, a VFD would be an excellent choice. Best prices I have found on these is on eBay. But this type unit will power only one motor at a time.
