Are all Century battery chargers junk or am I just having bad luck. These are the chargers that are for deep cycle batterys as well as 12 Volt starter boost, not just the cheap one. The first one lasted 1 Month past the warranty period. Took it to authorized repair shop, and was told that it would cost more to trouble shoot it than it was worth. Called the Company and complained and they sent me another one with the understanding there would be no warrantee on it,which i can see why becauce it lasted for only 2 charges and burnt up. Anyone else have any simular experiences.

Bought a Century #87151 several years ago, date code is 8-25-00.Charger still working great, except for guage, this due to getting wet.Only real problem has been cheap plastic handle was broke when I opened box.Called company & they sent me a new one. A few weeks ago "CHEAP" handle broke again.Think I'll just make my own this time.

John,
Could you describe in more detail how you were using the charger ? Boost function to boost ? what charge rate ? 6V/12V ?, etc. I am curious as to why you are having problems with your chargers, since they are not usually too troublesome except for switches breaking and stuff like that. Or when I run over a clamp with the tractor !!

The main use i have is charging my lawn mower battery. The first one smoked like it was shorted out. What irritated me most is that i took it to a factory authorized service center and they told me that they wearnt worth the time and fee to even see what was wrong. Then when i called the company, they replaced it with the understanding there would be no guarantee on the replacement. Now the 2nd. time ive used it, it will only buzz on high charge but the meter does not move. Thought it might be the meter but does not charge in any position, hi-low or boost.

Maybe I'm jinxing myself, but I have a Century charger that I bought four years ago that works great, and I never have had a problem with it, and I use it VERY frequently. Maybe I got one of the last good ones.

Yep, I had the same with a century charger I bought at Northern. It died within 3 months and I took it back to Northern, they replaced it and that one bit the dust too. Last county clean up, it was on my trailer for the dump. I will never buy another century anything.

This is NEWS!! I"ve got one that works after a fashion. It charges. Only the meter quite working. I have no idea as to where we're at charging rate or condition. But I can say, it's a good looking piece of junk.

Century Chargers went from being made in USA to China about 2 yrs ago.

They also sell under the brand name Solar. They are made in China, but in another plant, and with some new technology in them, are pretty good.

Century is the retail unit, and the Solar is the "professional" unit.

The Solar unit is also the John Deere branded charger.

The Century charger brand was bought by Lincoln Electric about 4 months ago, but will remain an inported product.
