Jeep gas tank

I'm replacing the (rusted)gas tank on a Jeep CJ-5 and don't know how to hook the gas gage wiring back up. I have the "L" shaped terminal and know where it attaches to the float assembly but is there a ground wire? If so, where would it attach?

Just attach a bonding strap from the tank to the frame after you get it in to insure a good ground, I would not reley on the straps. The wire to the sender IS a varible ground to the gage.

Thanks guys...it serves me right to take everything apart and then let it set until I had forgotten how it went together. I now use a digital camera to document each step. It seems to work well.

grounding is done through the sending unit /tank/tank straps/chasis to the frame strap.
the pig tail is positive and the current flows through the gas to everything else.
If YOU THING THIS IS BAD YOU OUGHT TO PULL A IN TANK FUEL PUMP OUT AND SEE BOTH "+" AND "-" ARE BARE WIRES AT THE PUMP CONECTION TO THE SENDING UNIT. THE ONLY THING KEEPING THEM FROM BLOWING YOU UP IS THE LACK OF OXYGEN AND A LIGHT VACUME FROM THE EVAPORATIVE CONTROL SYSTEM.
I HOPE YOU DON'T LOSE ANY SLEEP TONIGHT.
