OT- Does anyone know anything about truck axle gea

I have 2 different axles in my truck, a dana 44 up front and a ford 8.8 in the rear, the 8.8 has 3.08 gearing, but the closest gearing to that I can find for the dana is 3.07, I know you are not supposed to have 2 different gearing ratios in the front and rear axles but, would that little bit of difference really hurt it that much? Is it possible the ratios are the same? Same number of teeth. Just happens that someone rounded off differently?

I am getting new gearsets for both, rear axle being an 89 8.8, and front axle being a 79 dana 44 and i looked everywhere and the only gears I can get that match gearing is 4.10 but i dont want that low of gearing because i drive on the highway a lot, and the closest other gears i can get for those 2 axles is 3.08 for the 8.8, and 3.07 for the dana

A few psi difference in tire presure will change the final drive ratio more than the 4.10 vs 4.11 concern.

Ya know, I hate to disagree BUT doesn't the length of the tires tread surface determine 'gearing change' when swapping tires...no matter how you change the height with more or less air pressure the revs per mile remains the same due to the circumfrence of the contact surface or tread face...right?

My 79 Dodge 3/4 ton came from the factory with 4:11 in the rear and 4:10 in the front.

close enough,The front can pull alittle more for you than. Just no running it on black top.

THE DIFFERENCE IN THE AXLE IS THE MAKE DANA / FORD
JUST LIKE ENGINES A FORD 5.7LT IS CALLED 351 AND CHEVY'S 5.7LT 350 YOU CAN RUN 4.10 WITH 4.11

I agree with what the others have said. That is the way it is suppossed to be on those old gals.

The fronts "outrun" the backs.

The different gearing is the primary reason the manufacturer called it Part-Time 4 wheel drive and tells you to only use 4 wheel on loose surfaces. On a good road that gearing difference puts real stress on the driveline. I have a jeep and have actually had to backup to get out of 4 wheel all because I drove just a few feet on good road.
These full-time 4 wheel or All-Wheel drive vehicles have exactly the same gears and some kind of slip mechanism.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FULL & PART TIME 4WD IS ON FULL TIME 4X4 THE TRANSFER CASE IS ALWAYS INGAGED PART TIME 4X4 YOU MUST MANUALY INGAGE IT

The front grearing will probaly be a bit differant, as an example 4.11 on back and 4.10 on front or the other way around. I was told that the bigger number (4.11) is on the back as the smaller number (4.10) will turn just a bit faster so as to pull on the front end, better for steering. I have seen exact same gearing on both but rare.

I agree... a couple of the trucks I've had (that I took the time to look at) were set up as you describe... 4.10/4.11... and I was told the same thing... so that the front axle will tend to "pull" the truck when locked in.
