I installed a fuel oil furnace 3 years ago and had 2 275 gallon tanks installed. The tanks were reading empty last week which I thought was strange as I don't generally use that much fuel. I had the guy come and refill them. He only put in 289 gallons, so I pulled the sender unit out of the tank today. It was made by OIL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURE and has a cork float that appears to have some kind of coating on it to seal it. There is some porosity in the cork which must have oil logged. Anybody have any ideas how to reseal this float instead of buying a new gauge?

If the cork is saturated, I doubt you could make it read right again. Can you get another cork float? Or can you rig a plastic float like on a water trough? Maybe someone else has a better idea.
