That package that you have shur looks like the one's that Solar turbines used to make. They sold the radial engine part to Sunstran (I hope that I spelled that right) In the "80's". Both compainies are still in San Diego, Ca. Sunstran is still making a radial engine that "looks like" the old one that you have, but much more power. Hope this is a help. Those engines will run no matter what, I've seen some that came back from Viet Naim and the alum. compressor housing would be melted down to the rotor. Hope you have fun with it. TOM

That looks like a military surplus MA-IA air cart or maybe even a Dash 60. Does it produce airpressure also or just drive a generator?

From what I can tell it is called an APU for powering planes with electricity on the tarmac. Only produces electricty no compresser

I worked in AGE while in the Air Force. That doesn't make me an expert as to identification of this unit, but, the MA-1A's were trailer mounted, as was the -60 generator sets. The holes in the bottom lead me to believe this unit may have been used in some type of mobile operation, like a forward air control unit, that would have units like this for setting up remote radio operations (I was with one of these outfits out of Cannon AFB, NM 1974-76). I can't recall the exact model number now, but the units we had used two generators of about this size, mounted on one larger skid, and the entire unit would fit into the back of a 2 1/2 ton truck. The two individual generators were designed so that you could run one at a time, synchronize them both for heavier loads, or could even tie several units together so that if one went down, the other would automatically start and assume the load.
Like I said, these were all 400 hz, so there's limited application (if any) in the civilian world.

What project are you going to use it for? Turbine output is approx. 56,000 RPM. Should be ineresting just to get it running.

I'd look at any data plates left on there---if not on the outside, then, perhaps inside one of the doors.
Depends on the design, of course (intended application), but, if the generator was used for flightline, or radio operations (Air Force), you'll most likely get 120 v. output, BUT, it will be at 400hz,instead of 60hz., and NOT intended for rotating equipment---like power tools (saws, drills, etc.).
