Chainsaw II, The Quest for Knowledge....

Well it's been a pretty consistant year right up to and including today. My Stihl 009L, of 10 or so years siezed up good, real good. So I tore into it. Much to my disappointment, when I removed the cylinder, all the rod bearings fell out, along with chunks of crankcase. I didn't bother going any farther, the crank is locked up solid. So basically, I'm left with a real good cylinder (absolutely no signs of wear!) and a new bar and chain. The last discussion seemed to deal with large saws, and I only need at the most a 16" bar. Has anyone bought a saw recently, what was the make and model, and why did you buy it? Thanks.

Thanks for the input. I'm not up on current models, so I'll take a look at the ones mentioned. Since I've already had the Stihl experience, I think I'm going to check out the other two makes first. Should be fun!

I've had a Jonsered 2045 Turbo (16" bar) for several years and I'm very happy with it. Nice size and weight, very powerful, and starts in below zero weather. The design allows you to easily do normal maintenance. All in all, a great firewood saw.

Never seen a Jonsered around here or a dealer. Stihl and Husky are real nice. My Husky 242 (pro saw, older) will hardly start the colder it get under 50 degrees the all plastic parts seem to have something to do wth it. I probably need to replace all of them plastic parts, sidecover, starter, etc. I cleaned and oiled the plastic with light oil and it still hangs up. I bought a Stihl pro saw, they have been very reliable and have all I need, and a little less plastic.

My buddy has been an arborist since 1977 and says the only saws worth a damn are Husqvarnas, Stihls and Jonsereds, Husqvarnas being the best for starting in cold weather, -30c and below.
